Taylor Engine (AKA Taylor and Ryan Engine
Rebuilding, Taylor and Ryan, Taylor Engine Rebuilding), was established
in Whittier, California by Nelson Taylor and John Ryan in 1947. Nelson
Taylor was involved in early racing at El Mirage and Bonneville Salt
Flats and the first ever N.H.R.A. Nationals race in 1955. Our car won!!
Calvin Rice was the driver and the dragster was powered by a 324 cu. in.
Ford Flathead V8 on 60% nitro!!. Yes!! Taylor Engine is still
going strong. After Nellie’s death in 1966, Johnny decided to change
careers and Jay Steel purchased the shop when it was located at 7755
Greenleaf Ave. In 1975 Taylor Engine moved to 14029 Whittier Blvd
to a larger facility and then again in 1980 to our present facility
which is over 7,000 sq. ft. Taylor Engine is one of the longest
established Automotive Machine Shops in Southern California. |
